Blogs have rapidly changed in the past 6 months. They aren't only a place to write up about boring news (no-one wants to read anyway) anymore.
Blogs are money makers! Don't forget it.
They are an awesome business model for all levels of marketers - from newish marketers to full on professional bloggers.
Here are some tips for a better blog:
1. Have a nice modern color scheme. I recently changed mine from dull white and grey to a very sleek and modern style with COLOR! I use blogger so they let you choose from a selection of themes. Find a good one that suits your niche.
2. Keep all the content related. People go to blogs to read about a certain topic and if they see more info on that topic, they're more likely to stay. The tighter your niche, the better. Because the internet is growing so big, people look for really specific things these days. Niches are getting tighter.
3. Have your opt-in box on your blog. Remember, the money is in the list. Losing traffic at your blog is a terrible mistake. Unless it's really top of the mill info, people will soon forget about it. Capture those visitors so you can contact them later.
4. Keep updating it with fresh content. Search engines love blogs because they are SEO friendly in design and (usually) have fresh content being added on a regular basis. Some bloggers say you should post everyday. It's a good idea! I'm too lazy so I only get around to it once a week.
*Bonus Tip 5. Ping it! After you update your blog, go to some free ping web sites and submit your blog. They send a 'ping' to bookmarking sites and the like such as Technorati and alerts them that you have updated your blog. It only takes a few seconds. I use www.pingoat.com There's a few others such as www.pingomatic.com but they don't cover as many web sites as pingoat.

If you haven’t joined stumbleupon.com, go now and sign up for a free account and then activate your toolbar. The system is very simple and will only take you about 15 to figure everything out if you've never been to the site before.

Before we get started on this technique, let me say that it doesn’t matter which method you use if you site has poor quality information on it. If you are trying to promote affiliate programs, I would suggest you write a high quality report and publish it nice and neat on an .html page.
The whole purpose of stumble upon is to get a “thumbs up” for your site, so more people want to look at it. Getting a “thumbs down” is going to defeat the purpose of implementing these techniques all together. So make sure your content is up to par before starting this method.
In a nutshell, what you are going to do with this technique is bribe other people to stumble your site and give you a thumbs up. You will need a bonus to give them after they’ve stumbled your site. This can be some software, a free report, free videos, ebooks, etc….
What’s going to make this technique explode is using a blackhat script that automated the entire process! Here’s how it works…..
1. You download and install the script on your server (it takes less than 10 minutes to install the script on most servers).
2. You create a bonus that people can give away as a bribe.
3. You ask people to stumble upon 3-4-5 pages on your website (You can ask people to stumble on a maximum of 10 pages on your website. But asking for 3-5 stumbles is suggested.)
4. After stumbling, they submit their stumbleupon.com username through a form that the script generates.
5. The script then crawls their stumbleupon.com page to verify that they have indeed stumbled upon pages on your website.
6. On successful verification, the person is forwarded to your bonus bribe page.
That’s it! Very simple huh? You will need php and mysql database to install the script. If you don’t know how to install the script, you can get someone to do it for a measly $15 bucks. Go here to download the script.
